Electric in Seattle

I own a GEM E4 and am anxiously awaiting my ability to purchase a Volt. I am #260 on the unofficial GM-Volt.com wait list.

After 4 1/2 years and 30,000 miles with the all electric GEM, I cannot wait for a fully functional vehicle (as in freeway speeds and real-car amenities) with the range extender function. When our Volt becomes reality we will move down to a 1 vehicle family – our 1996 Dodge RAM can then be retired as we will no longer need a vehicle for long trips and the GEM will be sold.

We expect we will have to alter our travel practices (smaller tent, smaller containers of stuff – a truck allows one to bring all but the kitchen sink), but as with our habit modifications to allow for all electric driving most of the time, I am sure we will adapt.
